There are lot of myths pertaining to memory cards and the Do's and Don't about the use.
Here are some of them -
1. Do not delete photos from the memory card from the camera.
Images are recorded on the memory card which is formatted with the file system. File System has allaocation tables assigned. So when you delete an image from the camera Menu --> Delete. Only the entry in the allocation table is removed and actual image data still resides on the card unless it is overwritten. This is the main reason why memory cards go corrupt sometimes.
2. Use Memory cards from good Manufactures.
Memory cards are madeup of complex data chips and ckts. Images are important and data reliability matters to prevent it from getting corrupt. So stick to brands like Lexar, Sanddisk, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba.
3. Memory Cards in "X-ray" machines.
Being a solid state device, memory cards are complete safe when it comes to X-ray machines.
4. Memory card storage
When camera is not in use, remove memory cards and store them in the closed case.
Do not leave cards in the camera while storing.
5. Formatting a memory card
Format memory cards inside your own camera (camera that you are using) and not in the computer or any other camera. different operating systems of a computer may format your card in their default file system which can create issues.
Format your memory card once you take the backup of all photos from it. Do not keep any data on the memory card if you are not going to use camera for a month or so. That keep both your card and camera healthy in terms of system.
